Celebrating Rugby’s Birthplace
World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont highlighted that rugby, as a sport, was born 200 years ago, making France an ideal place to celebrate the sport’s birthday. The country has immensely supported the event, from high offices to the smallest villages.
About 600,000 overseas fans are expected to attend the tournament, making it a significant year for sports in France, which also hosts the Olympics and Paralympics in 2024.
Security Measures in Place
Security is a top priority for the Rugby World Cup. France’s Minister for Sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, mentioned that 5,500 security personnel will be deployed daily during the tournament, with some days seeing 7,000 personnel.
They will work alongside 5,000 private security guards in the stadiums and local authorities’ resources to ensure safety in fan zones known as the Rugby Villages.
