Diego Cocca will reportedly be appointed head coach of the Mexico national soccer team. The current Tigres coach will soon become the head coach of the national team, according to sources at both ESPN and TUDN. Cocca was chosen for the crucial position over a long list of applicants.

El Tri claimed that targets included Guillermo Almada of Pachuca, Ignacio Ambrz of Toluca, and free agents Marcelo Bielsa, Miguel Herrera, and Antonio Mohamed. Nevertheless, Cocca appears to be Mexico’s man.

    Fun Fact about Deigo Costa

Costa first learned the game on the streets of his hometown playing against much bigger boys than him.

He eventually relocated to Sao Paulo, where his uncle encouraged him to join the local team. Despite never having received any coaching, he was an immediate success.

Furthermore, his physical style may well come from this early introduction he had to the game.

Diego Cocca was recently employed by Tigres in Mexico. In Monterrey, the Argentine coach has just started working with Tigres UANL. In reality, Cocca has only presided over five games since being hired by the Tigres prior to the start of the current season. Under the current coach, the team is unbeaten as they have won all five of their Liga MX Clausura games. On Saturday, they will play the Pumas again.

According to the Spanish media outlet AS, Cocca will stick with Tigres through the rest of the current Clausura season. The coach has already left the club and will start working with the national team right away.

El Tri needs to recover as soon as possible. A new coach for Mexico was required. Tata Martino’s contract with the national team was not renewed following a lackluster 2022 World Cup. The Mexican team under Martino was unable to move past the group stage. Prior to playing Saudi Arabia, the team was essentially in the doghouse after drawing with Poland and losing to the eventual champions Argentina.

Two CONCACAF Nations League games will be Cocca’s first matches in charge the following month. On March 23, Suriname will visit Mexico, and three days later, Mexico will host Jamaica.

El Tri appears to have a busy future ahead of him. The World Cup will be held in Mexico in 2026 in addition to the United States and Canada. Additionally, the trio will be the hosts of the 2025 Gold Cup, which is said to include European powerhouses. Mexico might participate in the Copa America in 2024 as well. The 2023 Gold Cup, however, will be Cocca’s inaugural event in that capacity this summer.
