    As a child, Kambosos was a talented athlete and played a variety of sports, including soccer, rugby, and Australian rules football. However, he fell in love with boxing at the age of 11 when his father took him to a local boxing gym. Kambosos was immediately hooked and began training seriously.

    In 2021, Kambosos faced Teofimo Lopez in a highly anticipated title fight. Lopez was the reigning IBF, WBA, and WBO lightweight champion and was widely considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. Despite being the underdog, Kambosos put on a masterful performance, outboxing Lopez and winning by unanimous decision.

    Kambosos’ victory over Lopez was a major upset and catapulted him into the upper echelon of the lightweight division. He went on to defend his title against mandatory challenger, mandatory challenger Lee Selby, in October 2021.
