Francis Ngannou was born in Cameroon and had a troubled childhood, being exposed to local gangs. However, he refused to join them after witnessing his father’s reputation as a street fighter. Ngannou started training in boxing at 22, but could not take it seriously until 26 due to illness and family issues.
In pursuit of a professional boxing career, he moved to Paris. After reaching Europe, Ngannou was arrested for illegal border crossing and jailed for two months. He then met Fernand Lopez and started training at a local gym for free. In 2013, Ngannou began his professional career fighting under the French promotion 100% Fight and other local promotions, amassing a record of 5-1.
In 2015, Ngannou debuted his UFC, defeating Luis Henrique via round 2 KO. He went on to win 12 out of 14 fights in his UFC career. Ngannou’s first attempt at the UFC Heavyweight championship title was unsuccessful in 2018, as he lost to Miocic via unanimous decision.
