Saudi Pro League Format
Starting from the 2023/24 season, the Saudi Pro League is making some changes. Instead of having 16 teams, there will be 18 teams competing. In the previous season, only two teams were sent down to the lower division, but now four teams from the First Division will move up.
Each team will play against all the other teams twice – once at their home ground and once at the away team’s ground. This is called a double round-robin system, which means that each club will play 34 games during the season.
When the season ends, the top two teams will get to play in the AFC Champions League group stages. The team that finishes third will have a chance to enter the competition’s play-off round. On the other hand, the three teams at the bottom will get relegated to the lower division. To make things interesting, each club in the Saudi Pro League can have up to eight foreign players on their team for the whole season.
